LTM Qualify for full LEEA membership

Lift Turn Move Ltd have qualified for full membership of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). LEEA is a technical association involved in the design, manufacture, hire, repair, refurbishment, test, examination and use of lifting equipment. Applicants are subject to technical audits before full membership is granted and then to a continuing assessment programme.

The approval process involved full technical audits carried out by LEEA Officers which led to some minor changes to processes to ensure best practice. Certified LEEA training for all staff was also carried out. All of our workshop staff are now fully certified by an independent body to carry out hoist and lifting equipment assembly, inspection and maintenance.

LTM are delighted at achieving full membership, John Jones reports- ‘’we are upskilling to allow work on more complex projects. All LTM engineers are now LEEA certified with Team Cards which prove competence. At the same time LTM sales staff have been trained through similar training schemes’’.

‘’We have been working on this for over three years and are delighted to achieve full membership of LEEA, it will help as it proves competence, we have over two hundred man years of lifting equipment experience and lots of knowledge but now we can prove our competence to clients with LEEA certification.’’

Established in 1944, the LEEA has over 300 member companies worldwide and campaigns vigorously for higher standards of safety within the lifting industry. In addition to providing members with training and expert technical advice, the association works closely with organisations such as the Health and Safety Executive in the preparation of regulations and British, European and International standards.

Litestructures & Lift Turn Move play an important role in Manchester Central redevelopment

Following a competitive tender process, Litestructures, one of the leading specialists in creative aluminium structures and LTM were commissioned to supply a staging, rigging and lifting/ control package to Manchester Central Convention Complex as part of the venue’s £20 million redevelopment programme.

Manchester Central is one of the UK’s most iconic and popular venues and the redevelopment has centered on creating a new and extended foyer area to the iconic Grade ll listed Central Hall. The redevelopment is allied to infrastructure improvements to provide further cohesion to the venue’s facilities, adding value to clients and to the venue’s appeal as one of the UK’s major convention and exhibition complexes. Key to the Central Hall space development was the implementation of improvements to facilitate the staging of conference and gala functions.

The rigging package, consisted of over 240m of Litestructures LitePro520 trusses, orientated in 6 longitudinal runs down the hall space. These runs can be operated independently for local rigging, or joined laterally using LitePro290-4HD spreader beams, to create a versatile rigging grid.

Litestructures worked with Lift Turn Move (LTM) to specify a computerized hoisting system, with the aim of minimizing working at height within the Central Hall. Utilising 54 LTM Loadguard 1000kg chain hoists to BS7906: Part 1- Category A standard, these hoists allow the grid to move to a number of positions within the hall, without the need for secondary restraint when rigged.

The control system utilizes an LTM configured IBEX positional control and integrated load monitoring system on all hoist locations creating a reliable user interface to embrace the many and varied requirements of users of Manchester Central. Cabling and mounting infrastructure was installed throughout by Alternative Access, utilising a combination of IRATA abseiling and powered access machinery, in direct liaison with the venue management and electrical contractors.

Manchester Central also required a turn-key staging system, to facilitate every configuration from performance staging, to exhibition areas, to staging rostra. Litestructures LiteDeck fitted the bill perfectly, and through consultation with the venue and events teams, a complete package of 368 LiteDeck, with leg frame, step unit and handrail systems was specified. The modular design and lightweight yet robust construction, ensures that a fast and versatile staging solution will be an offer at Manchester Central for years to come.

Following the tender procedures and extensive design consultation, the manufacture and installation of the systems was completed in a period of just 8 weeks. Handover of the systems was completed with complete user documentation, aimed specifically at ensuring safe and productive use of this cutting edge venue infrastructure, now and in the future.

COW lifting technology GmbH has a strong partner:
Deutsche Technologie Beteiligungen AG acquires a 51% holding

Aichach, 28 May 2008. COW lifting technology GmbH, the manufacturer of innovative chain hoist systems under the brand name c-force, has acquired a strong partner: Deutsche Technologie Beteiligungen AG (DeTeBe) has taken over 51% of the company from Managing Director Klaus Weber, thereby guaranteeing the continued strong growth of the lifting technology specialists.

C.O.W. Lifting Technology in Aichach was founded in 2003 as Consulting Office Weber. After advising various famous companies in a number of stage technology projects, in 2004 COW took over the German office of the Columbus McKinnon Corporation of Amherst, New York, the manufacturer of CM Lodestar chain hoists for events. In early 2006 the company was renamed C.O.W. Lifting, offering its own chain hoists under the brand name c-force. COW offers a complete range of products in the field of lifting technology for the entertainment business, including not only the cable systems but also the programming and controlling of chain hoists, as well as winches if required. User training courses and the provision of maintenance services complete the range of services on offer. Weber, who has extensive experience in the branch, will continue to run the company in future.

The company can point to a large number of successful projects. For example, COW lifting technology provided the lifting technology for the opening ceremony at the Football World Championships in Munich in 2006 and some sections of the programme at the Handball World Championships in Berlin in 2007. During his world tour in 2007, Peter Maffay placed his trust in the specialists from Aichach. And the modern multi-purpose halls ISS Dome in Düsseldorf and the new O2 Arena in Berlin, which is currently under construction, are, or will be, equipped with innovative lifting technology from Aichach.

The company expects a considerable increase in turnover during the current business year. The invested capital will be used to finance the company's strong growth. It will also provide COW lifting technology with an opportunity to expand further in the field of winches.

Deutsche Technologie Beteiligungen AG (DeTeBe) with its headquarters in Gräfelfing near Munich is listed in the Entry Standard of the German Stock Exchange. The company, under its Chairman Stefan Thoma, acquires majority holdings in medium-sized technology and growth companies. "Our shareholding philosophy maintains the independence of the companies. This permits our holdings to make quick business decisions, creates continuity and is the basis for a successful partnership based on mutual trust", says Thoma.
